Rembrandt Exhibition at Norton Museum | Leiden Collection

Jane Greaves and Rachel Gustafson at the Norton Museum of Art

The Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach is hosting a major exhibition of works from the Leiden Collection — one of the largest and most important private collections of Dutch Golden Age painting.

In this video, I explore the exhibition and speak with curator Rachel Gustafson about the significance of this rare presentation, which includes paintings by Rembrandt van Rijn alongside works by Johannes VermeerFrans Hals, and other leading artists of the 17th century.

The exhibition features more than seventy works, including a notable group of Rembrandt paintings, as well as pieces by his students and contemporaries. Visitors can explore portraits, genre scenes, and allegorical works that offer insight into life in the Dutch Golden Age.

Highlights include Rembrandt’s self-portrait, history painting of goddess Minerva, refined genre scenes by artists such as Gerrit Dou, and rare works that are seldom seen in the United States.

This presentation also coincides with the 400-year anniversary of the founding of New Amsterdam, adding historical context to the exhibition.

The exhibition is on view at the Norton Museum of Art through the end of March.

If you are in South Florida, this is a rare opportunity to experience these works in person.
