Helmut Koller | #Kollerism
On February 21, the Fritz Gallery hosted an opening reception for a solo exhibition of Austrian-born artist Helmut Koller. Known for his brightly colored animal paintings, self-taught artist Koller comes from the world of photography. Having made his name as the official photographer of the Vienna State Opera, he started painting realistically, like Victor Vasarely and other artists, but then his style evolved. He coined a word for it, "Kollerism," which he defines as "realistic representation of the form and the abstraction of colors" with a three-color harmony. "I am the creator, leader and only follower of my own art movement," states Koller. The artist spends his time between Palm Beach, Florida and his native Vienna, Austria. His work is on display at the Fritz through March 17, 2019.
