Frieze New York 2024

Frieze New York 2024 returns to the Shed in Hudson Yards from May 1-5 with a lineup of 68 participating galleries. This year, the fair feature many solo booth presentations with an emphasis on abstract art. Notable highlights include: Alex Katz at Gladstone, Leo Valledor at Silverlens, Dewey Crumpler at Jenkins-Johnson, and Holly Hendry at Stephen Friedman. First-time participant Madragoa gallery from Lisbon wins Focus Stand Prize award. A special mention goes to self-taught artists: Reverend Joyce McDonald, Mame-Diarra Niang, Thornton Dial, as well as New York artist and performer Kembra Pfahler. Despite challenging economic conditions, the 12th edition of the fair reports robust sales. New York, NY May 2, 2024

Frieze London 2023

This year, Frieze London celebrates its 20th-anniversary. Some of the highlights are Yinka Shonibare's works, also new additions, such as Artist-to-Artist initiative at Frieze London, and Modern Women section at Frieze Masters. The fair runs October 11 - 15, 2023.

Frieze New York 2023

This May, Frieze New York returns to the Shed at Hudson Yards, featuring 60 galleries across three floors. Solo presentations abound, including Jack Whitten at Hauser & Wirth and Nan Goldin at Gagosian. David Kordansky gallery showcases Lauren Halsey, known for her Met rooftop installation. Tehran's Dastan gallery highlights five female artists, addressing challenges faced by Iranian women. Tiwani Contemporary makes its Frieze debut with Emma Prempeh in the Focus section. The LG OLED lounge spotlights digital art, featuring NFT artist Six N. Five. Jessica Vaughn wins the inaugural Frieze Artadia prize for her impactful work, "The Internet of Things," addressing societal issues. Frieze also champions social responsibility through the Artist Plate Project, which offers limited-edition artists’ plates at $250 each that can feed up to 100 people.

Frieze London 2022

This October, the art crowds are back in London for three art fairs in one - Frieze London, Frieze Masters and Frieze Sculpture. Frieze London is the contemporary art fair. Among my highlights are: Anthea Hamilton's Giant Pumpkins, Jeffrey Gibson's solo presentation, Laure Prouvost's multi-disciplinary project, and Estonian kinetic and sound artist Kaarel Kurismaa at Temnikova & Kasela Gallery. Frieze Masters as always showcases museum-quality pieces spanning from antiquity to the 20th century. Frieze Sculpture is a free exhibition set out in the Regent's Park's English Gardens and comprises 19 large-scale works by a diverse group of artists of different generations and backgrounds.
